Friday in the early morning hours John Mejia (25) was involved in a tragic car accident. He became the third traffic death for 2013. He lost control over his vehicle; the car turned over and hit a cement base on the side of the road. The motor caught fire after the accident according to eyewitnesses, who also said that he had been spinning his car and thereafter sped down the road. He might have been DUI. The car was destroyed, Mejia was stuck in the vehicle and passed away at the site. Mejia was an employee of Optica Moderna.
Saturday afternoon Police and Ambulance attended to victims of an accident in Ayo, where two De Palm Tours SUVs were involved in an accident. The driver of one of the vehicles was distracted and collided his vehicle with the other SUV. Two tourists had to be transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Police fine drivers for not paying "road tax" on time
More than 40 drivers received notices from the police on Tuesday that they will receive fines for not paying their road tax on time. The payment of the first quarter was due earlier this month. These roadside checks will continue this week.

Motorcyclist dies from accident injuries, 2nd 2013 casualty
Motorcyclist Kevin Richardson (b. 05-28-1956) passed away Saturday in the early morning hours from injuries sustained during a collision with a car. At the intersection of Royal Plaza and Weststraat a driver took a turn into Weststraat, turning in front of the motorcyclist; the collision between the car and motorcycle threw Richardson off the bike and onto a cement planter. Doctors tried everything to save his life, to no avail. The driver was not DUI; the accident is being investigated.

Sunday night a driver lost control over his Toyota Yaris, smashing with the car into a container parked on Schotlandstraat. The car got stuck under the container and miraculously the three young men in the car survived the crash without bad injuries. The driver got sick and was transported to hospital with one of the passengers for a checkup.
Police stopped a car for a routine check behind Pacifico restaurant in Paradera and noticed a bloody baseball bat in the car and that one of the men had a bleeding cut on his hand. Police detained the chauffeur immediately and while the passenger got away, the driver told police they had robbed a Chinese establishment in Alto Vista.
