Minister says Bakeries may not raise prices on bread PDF Print E-mail

Minister Michelle Hooyboer of Economical Affairs stated in an interview that she will not allow an increase in price for bread as the organisation of Bakeries is requesting. The organisation wants to raise the price of bread with 0.25 cents. The Minister feels that this is a very bad timing for an increase in price. As soon as the 2011 Aruba Budget meeting are over she will meet with the Bakeries Organisation and evaluate a current investigation into the production costs of bread.

Wednesday marked the 5th day the members of the Aruba Parliament are meeting in regards to the 2011 Aruba Budget. On Tuesday the meeting lasted until 2.30 am. Present during the meetings are all Ministers, Adviser's and the member of the Parliament. Members of Parliament representing AVP condone the fact the representatives from the MEP Party on many occasions were not present.

Wednesday morning member of the Aruba Parliament and the Ministers started to meet on the 2011 Aruba Budget. Contrary to the past years this year the budgets of all ministries will be presented at once. This means there will be one(1) overall voting to approve or disapprove the 2011 budget. In the past each Ministry had to present their budget in a separate meeting.

Current member of the Parliament of Aruba and Ex-Minister Edison Briesen today celebrates his 60th birthday. On this day he mentioned publicly that it looks like this term as member of the Parliament will be his last term in Politics. The member of the Parliament will not be able to celebrate his birthday like he would have wished as today the Government of Aruba is meeting our the 2011 budgets.

Minister of Economical Affairs and her colleague of Finances organized a presentation in order to present the "Green Corridor" project. This is a project where the Aruba government is looking for partners to build a 30 kilometer road from the Airport till San Nicolas.

The MEP Party states that they have visited many families in Aruba and that these families live in a great tension. This because of the high utility bills. They continue to inform that the families that they visited see that every month the bills are increasing. This puts them at risk in falling in bigger debts situations. MEP Party says that a lot of citizens are disappointed at the AVP Government.

Upcoming Sunday the RED Party will celebrate their 8Th anniversary in San Nicolas. This will be at Comanchestraat 1-B between 2 pm and 5 pm. The board of RED is organizing a debate between the members and the followers of the RED Party. Topic of the debate is how to form a political coalition.  RED Party believes that is it crucial that in the 2013 Elections Aruba's new government be formed by a coalition.

Parliament member Lainda Kemp-Westerhof declared that the general public of Aruba is entitled to know how the 28 million florins have been used for the first phase of the new waste management system at the Dump. She states that the project was supposed to lower the amount of waste of Aruba to 50%. Unfortunately the system has never worked efficiently and most of the waste is thrown back on the landfill.

Minister Michelle Hooiyboer-Winklaar informed the press during a press conference on Tuesday that starting Wednesday April 12th 2011 Aruba would see a big change in the costs per liter in prices for gasoline, diesel and kerosine. For gasoline this would be a 19.1 ct increase. The Government of Aruba is subsidizing a part of the taxes on Diesel since 2007.

Parliament member Mrs. Evelyn Wever-Croes communicated to the general public that she is a strong believer in organizing the Autism Day in Aruba. Autism is a neurological disorder that has as negative affects  in social behavior and communication. 1 in every 110 persons are affected in one or other form of autism.
