Minister Richard Visser of Public Health and Sport has announced that the National Laboratory will be privatized next year. The laboratory is undergoing a reorganization and since the budget did not permit for the privatization to take place this year, it was pushed to 2014.

On Thursday Parliament approved a new law, which for the first time includes a chapter on sexual harassment at work. The law states that the employer has to guarantee an ambiance free of sexual intimidation for the employee while at work.

The Minister of Education announced on Monday during a press conference that the Compulsory Education law is in effect on Aruba. All youngsters ages 4 through 16 have to go to school and it is the responsibility of the parent for the child to go to school until the day of his or her 17th birthday or the completion of a secondary education.
