The Radisson Aruba Resort Casino & Spa recruited over forty volunteers to help scour the portion of the coastline from Arashi beach to the California dunes, just below the lighthouse. The crew wearing We Are The Community tee-shirts collected marine debris washed ashore as well as general waste into large trash bags, to be discarded by the resort’s engineers.

This is a yearly event, where the students (who range in age from 12-14) are given a tour of the back-of-the-house areas of the hotel like the laundry room, the maintenance shop, the kitchen and all offices. The students then get an explanation of what careers are possible in a hotel, what the requirement are as far as skills and schooling and also the salary ranges of different positions.

Each year Holiday Inn Resort Aruba celebrates a Healthy Week with its employees. This year this took place in the week of September 19 to the 23rd.

This celebration is very remarkable as The Holiday inn wants to make its employees conscious on the importance on how to maintain a Healthy Living.Many times as a Human being we are so focused on our day to day Jobs, our personal stuff or Family matters, without standing still or without thinking on our own body. Living healthy is an essential part to reach a high age in life, celebrating and enjoying the quality of life each new day

The week started at the Holiday Inn Resort with: Monday – kick off with a healthy lunch for all employees. Intermezzo Spa was so kind to provide neck massages and back massages for interested employees monday – in the afternoon, a lecture given by Dr. Casper Laclé, regarding the importance of eating healthy, eating right (with the emphasis on fruits and vegetables) and thus reducing your risk for developing many types of diseases.

Tuesday – in the afternoon, Mr. Bert de Vries of Optica Oduber & Kan, provided an eye check up for all employees, including checking the eye pressure.Wednesday – in the afternoon, representatives of the Mary Joan Foundation visited the hotel to give a Breast Cancer Awareness presentation.Thursday – in the afternoon, Wit Gele Kruis, conducted a health check up. B.M.I. (Body Mass Index) was checked, bloodpressure taken and also the employees the cholesterol, triclyceride level and glucose level were checked.

Friday morning, Miro Tromp, dental hygienist, gave a lecture about the importance of mouth hygiene and especially on how to prevent bad breath. And Friday afternoon – employees participated in a health walk to round of the health week.

cqueline and Gilbert van Veen have been on a mission to save as many of the island’s sick and stray dogs as they possibly can. A daunting task at best given the large number of stray and wild dogs here on Aruba; but today the van Veens learned that they are not in the fight alone! Today, at a surprise presentation held at the Screaming Eagle Restaurant on Eagle Beach, the Van Veens received a donation cheque of $2,500.00 USD from the “Dushi and Friends Rescue Foundation”.
