Thursday morning the Minister of Tourism in Aruba Mr. Otmar Oduber held a meeting with different Aruban reporters. During this meeting the director of The Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) Mrs. Ronella Tjin a Sjoe and Sue Ann Lee were also present.
The goal of the meeting was to inform the local press of the steps that the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA)and the Government are doing in regards to the publicity that the case of the missing American woman is bringing to Aruba. The Minister informed that on an hourly basis they receive updates of all media publications and broadcasts that mention Aruba in relations to the on going investigation. The Tourism Authority receives many requests for information from international press but they are not commenting. This is because it is not advisable to directly mix tourism news with a judicial occurrence. All information requests regarding this case are being referred to the public prosecutor. The ATA is providing the international press when requested with copies of press statements that were given by the public prosecutor. Also all ATA offices in the United States are on constant alert. Aruba's income is provided for 77% by tourism and for that reason the government of Aruba and The Aruba Tourism Authority have a high priority on this case.
