Minister Mike de Meza said that the Cabinet Mike Eman government is encouraging the community to make use of alternative energy at their homes, businesses and institutions. He explained that the alternative system has to be connected after the Elmar meter or one can choose for a separate system. The latter entails installing a complete new infrastructure for the home, business or institution.

An important factor that everyone should keep in mind is that the alternative energy cannot be sold with other individuals. Furthermore, the minister remarked that the import duties on alternative energy equipment, such as solar panels, is only 2% and the government is working on lowering the duties on energy saver electronics, such as "green label." The government is aware of the high cost of these systems and even is requesting importers to start offering flexible pay plans, maybe in cooperation with commercial banks.
