Minister Michelle Hooyboer-Winklaar presents “Status of Women on Aruba” at ATIA’s “Women in Leadership” conference |

Minister of Economic Affairs, Social Affairs and Culture, Mrs. Michelle Hooyboer-Winklaar held an impressive presentation at the Aruba Trade and Industry Association, ATIA, Women in Leadership conference. Her presentation on the “Status of Women on Aruba” explained the current status, what role the government should play in maximizing women’s state of affairs and the identification of “gaps” in reaching equal status for men and women.
The Minister covered various areas in her speech, such as education, health care, economic participation and political participation. As one of the areas that was identified as not being “female friendly” yet, she mentioned “politics” and pointed out that the government plays a role herein and that the process has to start with the abolition of certain laws that are still discriminatory. Minister Hooyboer-Winklaar participated at the entire conference and remarked that it was inspirational and encouraging to be amongst women who have demonstrated that they are ready to work together to improve the status of women on Aruba.
