Monday morning, Minister of Tourism, Transportation and Labor, Otmar Oduber announced that the company that will be converting the former Bushiri hotel ruins into a 310-room 4-star resort is Southwest Horeca Development N.V.

The company made a bid on the property for a Hard Rock Hotel branded resort, including a casino.

The committee working on the evaluation of the tender submitted their report to the government on March 28, 2012; it received approval shortly thereafter by the Council of Ministers.

On April 11, Minister Otmar Oduber announced the decision to Southwest Horeca Development N.V. The company will be making an investment of 120 million USD, for which provisions will be made by Aruba Investment Bank. Southwest has made a 2 million USD deposit, which will not be refunded should they not complete their financing requirements in the next 3 to 4 months.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Aruba, slated to open in 2014, will feature eco-friendly, sustainable energy construction elements.
