The Minister of Economic Affairs, Michelle Hooijboer-Winklaar said that as of last year supermarkets and shops are allowed to remain open to the public until 10 p.m. This general permission was given because people on Aruba no longer work the regular 8 to 5 shift and a need for longer, more flexible hours for, especially grocery shopping was identified. Business owners are not being obligated to keep their shops and supermarkets open until 10 p.m., but can do so if they wish to.
