During a search by customs inspectors at a supermarket in Noord, illegally stored fireworks were found in the building. On Aruba, unsold fireworks are sent to a central warehouse in Wela. In the case of this supermarket the fireworks had even expired and would have been confiscated anyway if they were to be put on sale during the coming holiday season.

Rules for fireworks sales are being changed, and expiration dates will be recorded on a form for better control, government official on the fireworks control committee, Ruben Ponson said. Ponson added that there are about 80 fireworks selling points on Aruba and it is suspected that 10 to 20 of them might keep fireworks stored illegally outside of the period that they are allowed to have them in their businesses.
