Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) is currently dealing with an external situation that is possibly affecting the passenger flow departing to the US, as is the case in the US also. In the US travelers had been warned ever since the beginning of March 2013 about long lines and passenger processes at the US airports as a possible effect of the US Budget sequestration.
Budget sequestration is a procedure in United States law that limits the size of the federal budget. Sequestration involves setting a hard cap on the amount of government spending within broadly-defined categories. For Aruba this means that as of March 1, 2013 the US Customs and Border Protection who operates and manages the US Pre-Clearance facility at the Aruba airport, has also been feeling the effects of these caps on the amount of government spending which may have its effect on their manpower planning. The Aruba Airport Authority N.V. and all other local and US authorities and companies involved in the us bound passenger process such as IASA, Local Customs, airlines and ground handlers are continuously working together to try to counteract the situation at hand, but the effects are nonetheless visible during peak hours at the airport, especially from Fridays to Sundays when departing in the afternoon. AAA advises passengers departing to the US to be at the airport at least 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of their flight at the airport, in order to ensure a timely boarding process.
