The Aruba YMCA, with locations in Dakota and San Nicolas, for almost two decades has been offering cooking classes. Currently Chef Glen Ridderstap is the instructor facilitating the classes. He presents Aruban, Chinese and Indonesian cuisine, as well as Holiday specialties and snacks in an entertaining, enthusiastic manner.
In the summer, the Y also offers classes in general cooking skills and local dishes for the students preparing to study abroad. At the most recent certificate presentation, Minister of Education Arthur Dowers did the honors in handing out the certificates. YMCA General Secretary Anky Vrolijk explained that the classes take place on Monday and Wednesday at YMCA Dakota and on Tuesday and Thursday at YMCA San Nicolas. Readers can call 5823072 or 5845303 for more information and registration for the next course. The course takes place once a week for the duration of five weeks.
