A group of 24 girls and boys, ages 12 to 14, camped out at Masiduri in Arikok National Park for two weekends. They enjoyed learning about and observing the flora, fauna and in general the natural elements as part of the first Aruba Junior Park Ranger pilot program.
Minister of Economics, Social Affairs and Culture, Michelle Hooyboer-Winklaar said she is extremely proud of the young men and women, who received their certificates as graduates of this program. The boys and girls participated at different daily activities carried out by the park's rangers, produced different art pieces and also did some research. They will continue on as youth ambassadors at the park and hopefully in the future as adults will play an important role in preservation and protection of Aruba's nature, explains the park's Research and Investigation Manager, Indra Zaandam. The Junior Rangers program is one of the projects the park is developing to bring the park "closer to the people," said Mrs. Hooyboer-Winklaar.
