After two days of strikes, construction workers will be heading back to their jobs on Monday. Labor union STA and the three construction companies affiliated to the WAB association, with the intervention from the national mediator, have reached an agreement and signed a protocol on Friday afternoon.
Ultimately the workers will get their Afl. 2 per hour pay raise, distributed over the next two years for the period of August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2014. Parties also agreed on an Afl. 350 bonus and that Saturdays, which were being paid at 200%, will now be paid at 175%. Those who participated at the strike will not receive pay for the two days. Some 150 construction workers, employed by Thiel Corporation, Arubaanse Wegen Bouw and ALBO will be partaking at the new collective working agreement.
