During an event organized by Carbon War Room in New York, Aruba Prime Minister MIke Eman gave a speech on Aruba's efforts in the area of alternative energy which in time are to benefit the community in all areas. Present was John Ellers, CEO of Solar USA, who has carried out different solar panel projects on Aruba and is familiar with the island's potential.
Ellers is involved in a solar panel project for Hyatt Regency. Ellers said, "This is the country where we see great opportunities to introduce sustainable energy island wide. The decision of the prime minister and the government to lower the import duty on solar products made it very attractive for Hyatt Corp to realize its project. It allows the hotel chain to do much more in this area. Ellers, who is from Arizona which is considered one of the world's solar capitals, said that as he has spent some time on Aruba, he has found that the solar resources are a little better here, according to the population's demand for energy. He explained that there are two types of solar energy: electric and thermal, and the prices are decreasing as the demand goes up.
