During his entire career, Dr. Richard Visser has concentrated on disease prevention, in particular obesity and chronic non-communicable diseases for which obesity plays a role as contributor. Dr. Visser has carried out different scientific investigations on obesity and nutrition, the causes and the consequences.
On Aruba, as well as internationally, Dr. Richard Visser is considered an expert on childhood obesity. At present, as Aruba's Minister of Public Health and Sport, Dr. Richard Visser continues with his mission to motivate and encourage the prevention of obesity and chronic non-communicable diseases. His focus is childhood obesity and to provide a good base for nutrition for the growing child and good development of the adolescent and adult. One tool in the prevention campaign is the "bus di salud" or "health bus", which currently is being remodeled at Van Vliet Trucks in The Netherlands.  This "bus" was designed and was in use as a vehicle for medical consultations. It is being remodeled and equipped with all that is necessary to conduct prevention activities on Aruba, for screening of people in our neighborhoods, using the new Social Media Medicine (e-Medicine) Drimpy.

The "health bus" will be ready and shipped to Aruba at the end of May and is being expected to arrive on the island on time for the Pan American Conference on obesity, with special attention to childhood obesity taking place in June. Minister Richard Visser's goal is to motivate self-care through prevention activities and promote behavior that contributes to a healthy lifestyle. The "health bus" will offer its services closer to home for everyone, visiting neighborhoods island-wide with different awareness campaigns, motivating our community to live a healthier life.
