Dermatologist John Kock will hold a lecture on Wednesday, May 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Radisson Resort's ballroom. The subject of the lecture is skin cancer diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Kock said he is giving the lecture as a contribution to the community of Aruba and the Queen Wilhelmina Cancer Fund, which holds its annual collection actions in April.
Dr. Kock explained that skin cancer is not the top cause of cancer related death on Aruba, but it is the cancer that is most prevalent and accounts for 42% of all cancer cases. In 2007 Aruba knew 125 cases og skin cancer according to Health Department records. In four years, this has grown to 152 cases. There are variations of skin cancer, but the most aggressive, which can spread and result in death is the malignant melanoma. The specialist, with authorization of the cancer fund announced that he has written two brochures on skin cancer in the Papiamento language, including advice on sun exposure.
