On Wednesday Claudio Stamper, managing director of Universal Aviation during a press conference by the Ministry of Tourism, Transportation and Labor said there is increased traffic at Aruba's commuter airport compared to last year.

Historically people travel less outside of their countries during an election year and because of the higher fuel prices challenges were predicted for two of Aruba's largest markets, Venezuela and the U.S.A. Despite these predictions, the commuter airport is experiencing a 23.11% increase in traffic for "Semana Santa" compared to last year's Holy Week.

In 2011 Aruba welcomed 183 private aircraft for Easter Week, for 2012 this number has increased with 23.11% to 238. This growth brings challenges with it, mainly caused by the limited parking space. Stamper reports satisfied that all is going well because of  better communication and cooperation with customs, immigration and the airport. There are plans to expand the commuter airport for next year to offer more parking space, especially for the busy Holy Week.
