On August 2, 2011 at about 6.23 PM (local time) 911 received notification of a possible drowning of a woman. The traveling companion of this woman, a man G.V.G. stated that they were going snorkeling behind Nanki Country Club and that at a given moment he had signaled his friend to swim back to the beach. He stated further that the woman had not reached the beach together with him and apparently had remained in the water.

The American woman in question is R.G, age 35, the man is indicated as G.V.G, age 50, also an American. In spite of intense searches during a number of days by amongst others the surveillance department and the detective department of the Aruban Police, the Aruban Maritime Police, the Coast Guard, Search and Rescue Divers and volunteer divers of Jads and the use of two helicopters, an airplane and several boats, until now the woman has not been found in sea or on the shore. The statements made by the traveling companion led to such questions that on Friday, August 5, 2011 it was decided to detain him for further questioning on the possible drowning of the woman. At this moment the detective department of the Aruban Police is conducting an investigation into these matters. For further information you can contact Taco H.W. Stein as spokesperson of the Prosecutor’s Office.

It is a beach enclosed by a reef, with only a small opening. If you go out in the open sea the current is at least 3 miles, so very dangerous for unexperienced swimmers

My wife is LEO here and we are EXPATS who live here. The current is nothing and would also push you right into the reef or further up the beach , not out to sea !!!!! I dont think he even took her there. I think a crime was commited somewhere else on the Island. FBI is assisting now. Please disregard nancy Dis-Grace as she talks through her A**.

Gerard is right , the current in the open sea is probably 3 miles an hour. The only way she drowned though in my opinion is that she could have panicked. The reality is , If they were snorkeling along the reef , she could have climed out of the water as the waves would have pushed her right up on it. This all within shallow water and easily seen. Also , a little further down the reef opens up at least 100 yards wide with small waves pushing you into the mouth of Baby Beach and comes into a shallow sand bottom onto the beach. There is more to this Guy's story than the story he is giving.

Thankyou Gerard
i am wondering if she was even in the water. she could be anywhere. someone here in the states who knows her well says she would not have gone out to sea and didn't like to snorkel.

Providing her friend is telling the truth about the snorkeling location. I have snorkeled by Nanki Country beach club which is next to Baby beach. There can be a very strong current at any giving day. I have been caught in it and I am a strong swimmer and diver. It is only because my snorkel partner took my hand and pulled me I got to shore. Please don't take your information from Nancy Grace or any other American News outlet. They are more concerned about rating than the facts.

Why isn't the family of the lady talking on her behalf. This so called boy friend is getting his 15 minutes of fame sitting on his couch at home. The lost lady was on Match while she was living with him???? This boy friend is bad mouthing the suspect when he doesn;t know him. I hope they find her, but it could be exactly what the suspect says - she got caught in the tide current.
