A few months ago, Juan “Junior” Quant, aka “Blauw” was sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting his wife Chaldira Quant-Vis in an attempt to kill her. After a long recovery period, she is bound to a wheelchair with multiple complications.

Blauw received the maximum sentence – 15 years – for this type of crime, but has appealed the court’s decision. On Monday the Superior Court, with three judges will hear his case. Blauw insists that he does not recall what happened. The memory loss apparently was the result of a suicide attempt after he was arrested. The first judge hearing the case did not believe him and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment. Blauw has decided to replace his first lawyer Chris Lejuez with attorney John Zarra for his appeal.
